Welcome to Purple Class
Bend and Flow
This half term, our topic is Bend and Flow:
This project has a geography focus and teaches children about
rivers, rainfall, soils and the impact of water on the local community
and communities. At the heart of this project the children will learn
to write poetry on a rivers theme and develop additional skills in writing an explanation text to explain why we have rain.
In this project the children will learn:
• About significant rivers of Wales;
• To use a range of geographical skills to investigate the physical
features of rivers, including the water cycle, and to consider the
impact these features might have on the landscape over time and
in specific locations;
• To use ICT and other sources to find, record and present
information;
• To respond to a stimulus in a creative way, developing skills in the
expressive arts;
• To write poetry on a theme using descriptive and expressive
vocabulary;
Plan a scientific investigation and present and analyse the results.
In order to build on the great work the children at home, we will continue to provide homework through Seesaw and Google Classroom. This homework will build upon what the children have done in class or help to prepare them for topics we will be covering by helping them gain more knowledge (this might be by asking them to research an artist before we begin painting in that artist's style in class for example). We would also encourage the children to practice their maths, spelling and grammar skills using sumdog whenever possible. This software learns the areas your child needs to practice and helps to develop that area. There are links to these websites at the bottom of this page. The children have all been given their log in details but if they need another copy, just let us know.
To help you child get the most out of their time in class, you could:
Listen to them read when possible. This doesn't have to be their reading books all the time. It could be a magazine about their favourite hobby, a funny book from their favourite author or anything else that inspires them to read.
Practice their mental mathematics. You could play a game with them to see who can answer times table questions first, encourage them to play sumdog etc.
Practice their digital skills. You could encourage them to create their own game on scratch, compose their own music on garage band, edit their own movie...etc
Aeron Thomas congratulations video!
